Work Experience

Energy Queensland (Ergon Energy Network and Energex) offer work experience placements for high school students currently in Years 10, 11 or 12, or students completing a relevant course through TAFE.

Work experience is a great way to gain insight into our everyday work and to find out about the various jobs that exist within our organisation. Work experience can form part of a careers/job seeking cycle and may provide a pathway to an apprenticeship or entry level role.

If you’re interested in the Electricity Supply Industry, your enthusiasm may lead to a work experience placement with us. We are regularly looking for interested candidates to lead the future of energy supply in Queensland.

Our Work Experience Program:

  • Work experience opportunities at our depots and offices across Queensland
  • Open to students in Years 10-12, or studying at TAFE
  • Completed in 1-week blocks for our trade-based placements. For non-trade it can be for a shorter period.

Eligibility

To be eligible you must:

  • Currently be completing Years 10-12 (min age 14), or
  • Currently be studying a relevant course at TAFE
  • Obtain a General Construction Induction Card (White Card) from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) - unit of competency is CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • Complete our Work Experience Application Form (required when accepting a placement offer).

Assessment process

After the closing date of the application period, your application will be assessed and you will be notified of the outcome via email.

If your application is successful:

  • You’ll receive a placement offer
  • You’ll be required to complete our detailed Work Experience Application Form and return with your acceptance.

Frequently asked questions

I am Home Schooled, can I still apply for work experience?

Yes, however you will need to be linked to a RTO / School to be covered by insurance. A student cannot undertake the work experience placement with a parent or relative. Parents will need to email homeeducation@qed.qld.gov.au for the relevant work experience information and required forms.

I left school early but am still of school age, can I apply for work experience?

No, our Work Experience Program is only open to High School and TAFE students or those completing a VET in Schools Program full time.

I am still of school age but go to TAFE full time, can I apply for work experience?

Yes, if you are completing a VET in Schools Program full time.

Can I change my placement dates/depot after submitting my application?

No, if you are unable to attend on the dates offered you will need to withdraw your application and submit a new one when the next application period opens.

How long will it take to hear back about my application?

We attempt to have assessments and allocations finished within two weeks of the application period closing. This may vary depending on the depot and the number of applications received.

How do I get a White Card?

You can obtain a white card from any RTO. The unit of competency is CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.
