Benn Barr joined Energy Queensland in May 2025 as Executive General Manager of Regulation, Risk and Strategy. He has over 25 years' experience in energy policy and regulation within Queensland and nationally.

Prior to taking up this role, Benn was Chief Executive for five years of the Australian Energy Market Commission a federal statutory body responsible for national energy market rule making, market development and advice to Energy Ministers.

He was previously the Secretary of the Council for the Australian Federation, a collaborative intergovernmental group of state and territory First Ministers, and also served as the Queensland Government’s Senior Official for the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Energy Council and as a Senior Executive in a variety of roles within the Queensland Government.

He holds a Bachelor of Economics from James Cook University and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
