Who we are

Energy Queensland is an electricity company, Queensland Government owned corporation (GOC) and parent brand to Ergon Energy Network, Energex, Ergon Energy Retail and Yurika delivering essential services to customers and communities across the state.

With a large-scale asset base, customer mix and network span, our work may be diverse but our core role is simple.

We’re here to energise Queensland; to keep the lights on – today and into the future.

What we do

Energy Queensland is a leader in the Australian energy sector and performs several key roles across the industry.

At a national level, we drive industry discussions support and guide change in response to evolving customer demands.

But our core focus is on Queensland. As a network provider, electricity retailer and energy services leader, our role is to keep the lights on for Queenslanders, helping them power their lives, while also investing and preparing for a sustainable, affordable and reliable energy system for the future.

We engage with customers, local communities, industry groups and stakeholders across the areas we work, and through Energy Queensland we promote many of our career opportunities, employee initiatives and whole of business priorities.

Our businesses

Energy Queensland's brands each have a distinct role in Queensland's energy system:

  • Energex – our South East Queensland distribution network service provider through which we build, operate and maintain the South East Queensland electricity network.
  • Ergon Energy Network – our regional Queensland distribution network service provider through which we build, operate and maintain the regional and remote Queensland electricity network (outside of South East Queensland).
  • Ergon Energy Retail – our regional Queensland electricity retailer through which we sell electricity retail services across regional Queensland.
  • Yurika – our energy services provider through which we deliver commercial energy, metering, telecommunications and utility services to customers across Queensland.

How we’re structured

Energy Queensland is a Government Owned Corporation (GOC) reporting to the Queensland Government through shareholding Ministers. As the parent company to the Energy Queensland group of companies, we provide strategic direction, governance and shared services for our subsidiary businesses, while empowering each business to focus on delivering specific services for our customers.

With oversight by our Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Leadership Team, our integrated structure supports strong governance, efficient operations and coordinated investment decisions, ensuring we balance customer outcomes, community expectations and long-term value for Queenslanders.

Our history

Our history is a story of bringing people, expertise and services together to deliver for Queensland.

Energex formed

Energex was formed replacing the South East Queensland Electricity Board (SEQEB).

1997

Ergon Energy formed

Ergon Energy was formed replacing six separate electricity boards across regional Queensland.

1999

Two parts of Ergon Energy

Ergon Energy started going to market as two different brands – Ergon Energy Network for network services and Ergon Energy Retail for retail services.

2014

Energy Queensland created

Energy Queensland formed bringing together Ergon Energy Network, Energex and Ergon Energy Retail to combine Queensland's electricity distribution and retail capabilities under a single company.

2016

Yurika launched

Yurika was launched to provide a range of energy services, metering and telecommunications solutions.

2017

One group, many brands

The Energy Queensland group continues to deliver for customers across Queensland through Ergon Energy Network, Energex, Ergon Energy Retail and Yurika.
